JAMP is a Texas state-wide program that helps students, from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, become physicians. Students who are selected to become JAMP Scholars and maintain all eligibility requirements will be guaranteed admission to a Texas medical school.
*"Economically disadvantaged" is financial eligibility for the Pell grant or a FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) of -1500 to 7000
Students will usually apply to JAMP in the Fall semester of their second year in college. During their first year, applicants must earn 27 credit hours, which must include General Chemistry I & II with a C or better.
Example: A UNT student graduates from high school in Summer 2024 and enters UNT in the Fall of 2024. This student will take 27 credit hours during their freshmen year, including General Chemistry I & II, and apply to JAMP by early October 2025 during their sophomore year.
Under Early Admission, students apply to JAMP in the Fall semester of their first year in college, as long as they earned 27 college credit hours during their senior year of high school, which must include General Chemistry I & II with a C or better. Only 3 of the 27 credit hours can be earned through AP credit.
Example: A UNT student graduates from high school in Summer 2025 and enters UNT in the Fall of 2025. The student earned 27 dual credit hours in their senior year of high school, which included General Chemistry I & II. This student is eligible to apply for admission to JAMP by early October 2025.
